Summary
The Materials Manager is responsible for managing the forecasting process by driving a demand management plan utilizing historical data, open orders, and partnering with the Business Unit team to understand the global strategy. The Materials Manager will work closely with Planning, Operations, Supply Chain, Finance, Business Unit Leaders, and Commercial Teams, enabling decision-making and collaboration across a variety of functions and teams through data analysis, simulation, and fact-based metrics and KPI’s.
The Materials Manager will utilize critical thinking, problem solving, and analytical skills to ensure West Branch maximizes machine utilization, optimizing inventory levels and driving productivity. The Materials Manager will need to quickly develop credibility and influence internal departmental leaders for a win win outcome, to meet customer needs and demands.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Directly manages the material team to include communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, and appraising results; coaching, counselling, and mentoring employees; coordinating, and ensuring compliance with systems, policies, and procedures.
- Using historical demand, sales forecast, open orders, internal demand forecasts, and applying macro-trends to generate a statistical demand plan.
- Responsible for the overall control of RTP inventory levels to ensure availability for production and optimization of days on hand inventory to meet company NWC objectives.
- Proactively identify potential supply gaps and determine inventory order quantities and flow to ensure overall delivery performance metrics by balancing production and inventory levels with demand to support targets to satisfy customer needs, inventory turn goals and capacity utilization/staffing requirements.
- Establish and monitor key metrics in forecasting accuracy and inventory levels, analyze data, identify trends, and opportunities for improvements. Develop action plans with key management stakeholders to ensure capacity and demand plans are achievable and have optimal utilization of resources.
- Establish and manage metrics and trends, drives root cause problem solving and action plans to achieve company objectives ensuring plans will support production schedules and supply plans.
- Enhance current ordering process of raw materials to avoid material shortages and supplier forecast accuracy and communication.
- Measures and reports on demand forecast accuracy and inventory metrics monthly to key stakeholders and management. Institute and manage best-practice business metrics and tools to measure performance of the planning and inventory functions.
- Generate monthly, quarterly, and annual forecasts based on direct discussions with commercial teams and internal supply chain and production units for RTP Demand for our core and high-volume customer/Items.
- Analyze and utilize historical customer order information, customer forecast data, (as well as current open orders information) and work with customers’ buyers and purchasers to drive the customer’s purchase order horizon at least 2-3 months beyond our current lead-time.
- Identifies roadblocks and inefficiencies in business processes and make improvements to ensure requirements are met efficiently.
- ERP M3 Key user and trainer on planning and demand management.
- Other duties and projects as needed.

Education and/or Work Experience
- BS/BA degree in a business or analytical field with focus in operations management, supply chain management, engineering, finance, business administration. (10+ years of experience will be considered in lieu of degree.)
- 5+ years of experience in relevant focus area of business/product management/finance/supply chain.
Technical Skills/Physical Requirements
- Solid understanding of supply chain processes and concepts around, demand management, MRP, inventory and supply management.
- Strong knowledge of and troubleshooting experience in Material Requirement Planning and ERP Systems.
- An understanding of the application and concepts of Production and Planning Control fundamentals including MRP, Inventory Management, Supply & Demand, Logistics, Procurement, Capacity Planning, Scheduling, and Lean Manufacturing.
- Experience in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Windows, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Teams, Power BI) and M3 Movex or other ERP system.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills across all levels and various disciplines
- Ability to work effectively across multiple facilities and reporting lines. Ability to mediate discussions between stakeholders with varying incentives and arrive at consensus.
- Ability to multitask and work well under pressure and deal with complexity and manage ambiguity and distill relevant information into simple messages.
- Self-motivated and proactive problem solver with demonstrated creative and critical thinking capabilities.
