Manufacturing Engineering Manager

Summary

The Manufacturing Engineering Manager will own and drive technical improvements in processes converting semi-finished blanks to final products with special features and tight tolerances. These processes include CNC Machining, EDM, Grinding, Lapping etc… The role will be responsible for increasing effective capacity, improving process capability, material yield and cycle times. He/She will also develop new processes to industrialize new value-added products, and new equipment. Finally, He/She will identify, initiate and execute projects to deliver material savings. Finally, He/She will fully embrace operational excellence practices (Lean & TPM) to enable systematic execution of all projects. The engineer will directly report into the Sr GM, Plant Operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • KPIs: Drive projects to improve major technical KPIs: material yield, cycle times, effective capacity & customer complaints.
  • Process capability: implementing the full breadth of SPC tools to achieve Process capability metrics in line with Global HyperionMT standards. Support this strategy with:
    • The implementation of Industry 4.0 tools, enabling real-time feedback to the operating team.
    • In-depth analysis of process data, and building relevant cause-effect correlations
  • New equipment: be part of the full cycle, from design to on-site qualification to industrialization and scale-up.
  • New Product: establish the manufacturing process to prototype then industrialize new products. Continuously challenge assumptions on feasibility range through improvements in fixtures, machine parameters, tools etc…
  • Cost savings: work closely with Procurement functions to identify, initiate and execute projects to deliver material savings.
  • Make-or-buy:
    • Develop a vendor eco-system to out-source parts, where internal capability is limited
    • Collaborate with vendors to develop their processes, in line with HyperionMT’s quality requirement
    • Be the deciding authority on process-wise make or buy decisions
  • Become a technical reference in Finishing processes of Cemented Carbide manufacturing

Qualifications

Education and/or Work Experience

  • B-Tech or M-Tech in Mechanical Engineering
  • 8-10 years of prior experience in Automotive, Aerospace or Materials Engineering
  • Excellent communication & influencing skills.
  • Structured and systematic approach in problem solving
  • Project management skills in the scope of manufacturing

Technical Skills/Physical Requirements

  • Deep knowledge in finishing processes: Machining, Grinding, EDM, Lapping etc…
  • Prior experience of working within an Operational Excellence framework: Lean, SixSigma, WCM, TPM
  • Strong knowledge of ISO9001, and critical tools in Process: PFMEA, SPC
  • Strong knowledge in problem solving tools: 5-why, A3, 8D etc…
