NPD Technician

Summary

The New Product Technician will be responsible for designing, planning, and manufacturing new products with the Precision Solutions business unit . The Technician will work cross-functionally with operations, sales and product management to prototype and successfully industrialize new products to customer specifications and within project time commitments. This role combines hands-on shop floor involvement with analytical, data driven decision making to ensure that processes meet all customer requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Evaluate & support the development of new prototype parts from customer supplied drawings & 3D models.
  • Drive rapid manufacture of prototype parts for testing at the customer.
  • Lead the manufacturing process of prototypes from order receipt to final shipment to end-customer.
  • Participate actively in the production processes of prototypes and pilot orders, including the operation of grinding equipment (ID/OD/Surface), lathes, EDMs, CMM inspection equipment, etc.
  • Interface with pre-form suppliers, field application manager and sales engineers to ensure design for manufacturability.
  • Work with externals vendors to develop and implement new manufacturing capabilities.
  • Exchange with other Hyperion production units and lead the standardization of new processes or practices and support changes in the production area.
  • Lead successful industrialization and hand-off to manufacturing operations, including the creation of Standard Operational Procedures, Control Plans and train operators in new processes and improvements that have been developed.
  • Ensure all customer requirements are met, including customer specific documentation, certifications, and any other compliance needs for products during prototype, pilot, and industrialization phases.
  • Support customer complaints analysis, and work with corrective and preventive actions as needed.
  • Act as facilitator and lead problem solving analysis on prototypes and new product developments.

 

Qualifications

Education and/or Work Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proven ability to work independently, self-direct, and take initiative.
  • Project management skills with excellent organization and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across functions.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD design and interpreting engineering drawings using GD&T.
  • Previous experience in grinding applications and tooling design, including experience with machining, lapping, and EDM processes.
  • Problem solving, lean thinking and statistical process control skills are desired.

Technical Skills/Physical Requirements

  • Walking and standing on the shop floor for extended period of times.
  • PC/Desk work required to perform tasks.
  • Ability to work flexible schedule and extended hours as required
