Summary
Learn the basic skills to operate grinding machines. Learn to complete all documentation required per company procedures such as 8-Step Checklists, Route Sheets, SPC Charting, Non-Conformance Reports, Scrap Tags, etc. Assist in maintaining shop cleanliness and organization.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Load and unload parts in grinding machines as instructed by the Department Leader or Trainer.
- Learn to make basic tool selections according to knowledge of basic grinding procedures under direct supervision of Department Leader or Trainer.
- Learn to position and secure work pieces on magnetic chuck, in holding fixture, or directly to machine table under direct supervision of Department Leader or Trainer.
- Learn to make basic machine adjustments under direct supervision of Department Leader or Trainer.
- Learn to utilize, maintain and calibrate measuring instruments as micrometers, calipers, comparators, indicators, and other inspection equipment. Learn to verify dimensions of ground work pieces for conformance to blueprint specifications. Follow 8-Step Checklist and have Department Leader/Trainer check first piece, always using 2 methods of inspection.
- Follow 8-steps for every job and completes SPC charts in accordance with customer specifications and AGS requirements.
- Keep work area, department and shop cleaned and organized.
- Participate in the development and maintenance of safe work procedures.
Qualifications
- Must possess math skills sufficient to make necessary calculations.
- Must be able to learn to study blueprints or layouts on work pieces to visualize grinding to be done and plan sequence of operations.
- Must have an understanding of the importance of safety and safe practices as they pertain to the grinding industry.
- Must possess adequate verbal and written communications skills.
- Must be dependable with access to reliable transportation.
Education and/or Work Experience
Continued Education Requirements:
This position requires 40 hours of continuing education training, including but not limited to: on-the-job training (documented by completed training checklists), in-house training courses, off-site training courses, Community Service Activities: (Volunteering, Coaching, Civic Responsibilities, School or Scouting Organizations, Church Activities, 4-H, etc.), process improvement, Special Projects or Safety Committee involvement.
Technical Skills/Physical Requirements
The specific physical demands of this job include lifting up to 75 pounds, and generally engaging in activities such as bending, lifting, walking, sitting, turning and repetitive motion, generally in an indoor weather-controlled environment. The position involves some risk of exposure to injuries related to physical demands of the job and requires close attention to detail and safety protocols. The position also requires visual and communication skills in observation of machine work and in communicating with co-workers, as well as in reading written instructions.
