Summary

The Controller is a broad-ranging role encompassing accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, providing value added analysis and counsel to the Regional Controller and the cross-functional operations management local teams. This role is viewed as a business partner and leadership position within two plant locations. The role is responsible for variance analysis (both actual versus budget and actual versus standard costing), proactive operating cash flow management, capital expenditures, coordination with other plants around the North American region and most importantly - driving EBITDA improvement through guidance provided to management and cross-functional operations managers.  

The Plant Controller’s involvement in process, policies and procedures development on the manufacturing floor will drive continuous improvement and support a dynamic growth environment.  This role is looked at as a point of leadership and will be relied on to problem solve within the plant. The Controller works in close collaboration with the Site Managers and the Senior site leadership team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Closing the monthly, quarterly and year-end books and records in accordance with US GAAP with focus on accuracy
  • Compliance with local statutory/tax regulations including filing of the tax return and support of audit requests
  • Proactive weekly monitoring of performance metrics to gauge performance for the month (sales shipped, sales to ship, scrap, yield, labor, and other elements impacting gross profit, EBITDA, and operating cash flow)
  • Enhancing management reporting systems and tools (flash reporting, metrics monitoring, variance reporting, margin analysis, standards monitoring)
  • Manages the physical inventory and broader costs accounting processes
  • Budgeting and forecasting
  • Capital expenditure management through robust justification analysis, challenging the operations team to leverage continuous improvement and lean concepts to replace capital expenditure and monitoring of spend versus budget
  • Working cross-functionally to identify solutions to issues arising on the production floor to better support the sites’ performance
  • Learning and navigating the ERP to support both the production process and the financial close process
  • Managing and submitting corporate closing deliverables on a monthly, quarterly and year-end basis
  • Control compliance
  • Managing and developing the local accounting team members, and managing applicable coordination with Shared Services Teams (mainly Accounts Payable and Billing/Accounts Receivable)

Qualifications

The successful candidate will be an experienced business professional with leadership experience, preferably having worked with industrial/manufacturing companies. Given the dynamic nature of the business, this candidate must possess an intelligent, personable, dynamic record of innovation, with strategic analytical skills and strong communication skills, executive presence, and the ability to influence and work effectively with senior management. 

Education and/or Work Experience

  • 5-7+ years of experience in accounting and finance for industrial manufacturer
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (MBA or Masters is a plus)
  • Public accounting experience preferred

Technical Skills/Physical Requirements

  • Demonstrated significant initiative and intrinsic leadership skills in prior roles
  • Strong analytic skills/comfort with managing and analyzing financial data
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills, with ability to convince and persuade senior managers
  • Experience in manufacturing environment required
  • Strong decision making and problem-solving skills including the ability to both work within the limitations of resources and data at hand, as well as identify and evaluate opportunities for further developments.  
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting and cost analysis.
  • Proven experience as a plant controller in a manufacturing environment with cost accounting expertise.

This position will travel periodically to Hyperion Corporate Headquarters in Dublin, OH and occasionally to other operating locations in the region for knowledge and best practice sharing (approximately once per quarter).
