Wire EDM Operator

Summary

Meet the customer’s needs by setting up and operating a wire or sinker EDM machine to the customer’s specifications as detailed in the process books. This while achieving quality, cost and delivery objectives for assigned projects. In addition, this individual will be supportive incorporating current and future products within CNC capability.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain a safe working environment per OSHA standards throughout the plant and assist in implementing any required updated safety regulations.
  • Be able to learn new equipment quickly based on a foundational understanding of wire EDM or sinker. 
  • Responsible for performing, set-up and identifying appropriate fixtures.
  • Identify the need for and correct size wire electrode and wire spool changes when needed
  • Complete a daily time record to accurately reflect the amount of time per job activity
  • Provide team support and communication to all co-workers.
  • Assist in implementation of Continuous Improvement Programs.
  • Notifies EDM Operations Manager of potential problems which could affect customer deliveries.
  • Maintain 6S and Lean Manufacturing processes.
  • Maintain machines and check ID water gauges.
  • Collaborate with quality control when required.
  • Inform management of any maintenance issues or problems related to a job.
     

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Esprit is a plus 
  • Good understanding of drafting and geometric dimensional tolerancing. (GD&T)
  • Good mechanical aptitude.
  • A team mentality approach for all activities, the foundation of Crafts culture.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Articulate, well organized, and self-motivated.
  • Organization skills, including the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to solve complex problems independently as well as with a team. 

Education and/or Work Experience

  • 5 years or more CNC Wire EDM machining experience.
  • Worked with engineering for part production.   
  • Minimum High School Education or GED required, ideally trade school or Community College
  • Knowledge of Esprit is a plus 

Technical Skills/Physical Requirements

  • Manufacturing or process related background.
  • The ability to use a computer.
  • Ability to develop and meet project schedules and follow a project plan.
