Production Manager

Summary

The Production Manager will provide direction and leadership for plant operations for all direct manufacturing departments. This individual will lead direct reports in the attainment of established production standards, goals and objectives including those associated with Safety, Quality, Delivery, Productivity Cost and other key performance indicators. The ideal candidate is considered a high performer with ambition for upward mobility within the organization.


This role will use leadership, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills to ensure the company maximizes the safety, quality, productivity and service levels for the employees, customers and stakeholders.  The position will need to quickly develop credibility and influence, while leveraging strong interpersonal and leadership skills to drive employee engagement and team execution to maximize value creation for both internal and external customers.
 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Directly manages the production supervisor team to include: communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, and appraising results; coaching, counselling, and mentoring employees; coordinating, and ensuring compliance with systems, policies, and procedures.
  • Direct manufacturing operations by analyzing trends; preparing critical measurements; implementing production, productivity, quality, and customer-service strategies; designing systems; and implementing LEAN processes and changes.
  • Implements production financial strategies by anticipating requirements, trends, and variances; developing action plans; measuring and analyzing results; initiating corrective actions; minimizing the impact of variances.
  • Ensures production and on-time delivery targets are achieved by developing production plans; controlling materials resources; establishing priorities; monitoring progress; revising schedules; resolving problems
  • Maintains and improves quality production by establishing and enforcing standards, conducting audits; developing policies and procedures; implementing quality improvement programs.
  • Support LEAN principles to meet/exceed customer expectations; establish and communicate service metrics; monitor and analyze results; implement changes as required.
  • Drives employee engagement and ownership of the production team in all areas of operations performance, including safety, quality, delivery, productivity and cost.

Education and/or Work Experience

  • B.S. degree in an appropriate discipline, plus 7-10 years’ supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment, or the equivalent education and experience with strong leadership background will be considered as well.
  • Demonstrated business acumen and critical thinking skills resulting in sound decisions.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, quantify benefit and prioritize lean manufacturing improvement opportunities. Training and/or experience leading a Kaizen or TPM event.
  • Self-motivated and proactive problem solver with demonstrated creative and critical thinking capabilities.
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities.
  • Experience in a fast paced, high mix / low volume manufacturing facility a plus.
     

Technical Skills/Physical Requirements

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must possess ability to influence people to achieve plant goals and objectives.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills. Must be effective establishing and maintaining relationships with all levels of employees at both the plant and with corporate functions.
  • Familiar and competent with computers, databases, and ERP systems. Proficient with Microsoft Office
