Sales Account Manager

Summary

The Sales Account Manager – Carbide Powder is responsible for growing revenue and profitability within Hyperion's Carbide Powder business by developing strong customer relationships, identifying growth opportunities, and providing technical commercial support throughout the sales process. This role serves as the primary commercial contact for Carbide Powder customers across an assigned region with targeted customer visits to strengthen partnerships, understand customer applications, and drive business growth.


This position partners closely with Manufacturing, Product Management, Customer Service, Supply Chain, and the global field sales team to deliver exceptional customer support and drive business growth. Collaboration with Supply Chain is critical to manage product availability, while coordination with the global field sales team helps identify and expand opportunities within existing customer accounts. This role balances proactive account management, technical sales support, and business development while delivering an exceptional customer experience.

This is a remote position based in Michigan or northern Ohio. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of Carbide Powder customer accounts across the Americas or EMEA.
  • Build long-term customer relationships through regular communication and periodic onsite visits.
  • Develop account plans that identify opportunities to increase revenue and customer retention.
  • Understand customer manufacturing processes, applications, and future business needs.
  • Identify opportunities to expand Carbide Powder sales within existing accounts.
  • Develop new business opportunities within the assigned product line.
  • Prepare quotations, proposals, pricing recommendations, and commercial agreements.
  • Achieve established sales and profitability objectives.
  • Conduct technical discussions to understand customer requirements and recommend appropriate Carbide Powder solutions.
  • Coordinate technical support with product management and manufacturing.
  • Present product capabilities and value propositions to customers.
  • Utilization of Funnel & Opportunity Management to grow collective share in the market.
  • Serve as the commercial liaison between customers and internal teams.
  • Respond to customer inquiries and coordinate order fulfillment.
  • Resolve delivery, invoicing, and customer service issues by collaborating with internal teams.
  • Monitor customer satisfaction and follow up on open issues.
  • Maintain CRM records, forecasts, call reports, financial reports, and sales activities.
  • Monitor market trends and share competitive intelligence.

Education and/or Work Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Materials Science, Business, or related technical discipline preferred. Equivalent technical sales experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • 4–6 years of technical sales or account management experience in a manufacturing B2B environment.
  • Experience selling technical or engineered products.
  • Experience managing customer accounts and developing long-term relationships.
  • Experience using CRM systems.

Technical Skills/Physical Requirements

  • Strong communication, relationship-building, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to explain technical concepts to technical and commercial audiences.
  • Strong business and commercial acumen.
  • Proficiency in Excel and CRM systems.
  • Travel: Up to 25% travel depending on customer locations and business needs.
