R&D New Product Development Engineer

The New Product Development (NPD) Engineer will be part of the Barcelona R&D team responsible for designing, planning, and manufacturing new and complex products in our tungsten carbide-based lines. They will work cross-functionally with operations, sales and product management to develop new product solutions in a cost-efficient and timely manner. They will also support the operation of new equipment as part of the NPD Center of Excellence.

Main responsibilities for this position will include:

  • Evaluation & quotation of new parts from customer supplied drawings & 3D models.
  • Design of pressing tools for new / complex carbide inserts and other NPD prototypes.
  • Manufacture of prototype parts for testing and qualification at the customer.
  • Delivery of lead-time and quality expectations.
  • Operation and optimization of the following R&D equipment:
    • Multi-axial press; large Isostatic press, 5-axis milling center & Additive manufacturing machines.
  • Industrialization of the NPD items with operations team in BCN, and / or other Hyperion manufacturing units.
  • Support R&D grade development activities.

Ideal Employee Profile:

  • Bachelor's degree OR advanced diploma in mechanical / manufacturing engineering (or equivalent)
  • Strong knowledge of carbide manufacturing processes with 5+ years of production experience operating presses, CNC mills, grinding and EDM equipment.
  • Strong proficiency with CAD design, preferably with Siemens NX and Team Center integration.
  • Skilled in interpreting engineering drawings using GD&T.
  • Experience with the Design and Manufacturing of pressing tools.
  • Strong interpersonal & communication skills, preferably with good level of oral and written English.
