Data Engineer

Summary

The incumbent is responsible for architecting, implementing and maintaining Hyperion MT’s data platforms. It also includes the process of gathering, importing, wrangling, cleaning, querying, and analyzing data. Systems and workflows need to be monitored and finetuned for performance at optimal levels.
 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Architect, implement and maintain Hyperion MT data platforms
    • Current state data warehouse is SQL server hosted in AWS
    • Roadmap being developed for cloud modernization, requiring expertise from this individual on Microsoft Azure data services (Synapse, Fabric etc.)
  • Designing, developing, deploying, and maintaining an organization’s data warehouse infrastructure.
  • Implementing improvements to the warehouse’s structure or adding new features as needed to support changing business requirements
  • Conducting quality assurance testing to ensure that systems are functioning properly and efficiently.
  • Identifying opportunities for automation of repetitive tasks within the warehouse to improve efficiency and reduce costs
  • Maintaining an understanding of current technologies so they can identify opportunities to improve existing processes.
  • Creating data models based on business objectives to determine how data can be stored and organized to support business processes.
  • Creating metadata to describe data sets for easier retrieval and analysis, such as defining the structure of a database so that it can be accessed easily by other applications.
  • Building and maintaining data pipelines that extract, transform, and load data from various sources into a data warehouse.

  • Drive data solution design assessment for data governance and analytics requests
  • Lead modernization of the data analytical landscape, drive automation, process improvements and better roll out of BI tools across the organization
  • Lead and support data-based modeling/projects to support better understanding and better decision making within the business functions
  • Data modeling experience
    • Hands on experience with physical and relational data modeling
    • Organizing data correctly and optimizing into an information system to help achieve critical objectives
    • Knowledge of platform technologies
    • Experience with data warehouses & big data platforms
    • Knowledge of data modeling principles, including conceptual and logical data models
    • Ability to utilize BI tools to represent insights
  • Lead and support the development of tools to automate, enhance or improve manual or sub-optimal processes. To include standardized data sources, implementing visualization and dashboards.
  • Collaborates with IT and other resources effectively
  • Mergers and Acquisitions: Actively support synergies and data integrations

Education and/or Work Experience

  • 10+ years of experience as a data engineer or in a similar role
  • 10+ years of experience in data architecture, application architecture, and large-scale data system development
  • 10+ years of experience in conceptualizing, designing, and implementing large-scale data & analytics solutions
  • Technical expertise with data models, data mining, and segmentation technique
  • Great numerical and analytical skills
  • Cloud native data architecture and analytics
  • Hands-on experience of working as a data architect/solutions architect 
  • Experience influencing decisions across cross-functional stakeholders 
  • Change management experience driving change in data analytics implementation and adoption of tools/solutions
  • Leadership and/or oversight of architects designing individual components of a solution
  • Proven success in requirements elicitation & comprehension to deliver the right data & analytics solutions
  • Strong hands-on experience on cloud-based Azure and AWS Data platform Solutions
  • Hands-on experience on Microsoft Data services, Azure Synapse Analytics or Microsoft Fabric 
  • Strong understanding and experience on Data warehouse, ETL and BI Concepts
  • Strong understanding and experience with Big Data frameworks and tools: Hadoop, Spark, Snowflake, Python, etc.
  • Travel: 15% travel required.

Technical Skills/Physical Requirements

  • Microsoft Technology stack – SSIS, SSAS, Power BI, SSRS, SQL 
  • Data integration and architecture techniques 
  • Cloud native data architecture and analytics
  • Nice to have – Infor M3 & DWD knowledge and expertise or similar ERP knowledge
  • Process driven mindset & focus
  • Facilitation & communication skills to work across all levels in the organization
  • Strong understanding and proven experience with Business Intelligence platforms

  • Work well with peers, and superiors in all departments as well as external contacts
  • Degree in Computer Science, IT, or similar field
